I was born in 1989 in Azerbaijan, Iran. I received my undergraduate degree in Polymer Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, in 2012. There, working under the supervision of Professor Hormoz Eslami, I conducted a research project on dispersion polymerization systems dealing with the synthesis of non-spherical polymeric nanoparticles via polymerization-induced self-assembly.

After graduating with my BSc, I started my MSc studies in the Department of Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University, in 2013, where I joined the group of Professor Yusuf Yagci to carry out my MSc research. In the group of Professor Yagci, my research was focused on developing novel strategies for photopolymerization taking advantage of heterogeneous photocatalyst systems. It included various aspects of polymerization techniques from conventional free radical and cationic polymerization to controlled/living radical polymerization systems regulated by photochemical means. A comprehensive series of studies were conducted to investigate the potential of heterogeneous semiconducting photocatalysis in polymerization. Furthermore, we expanded the heterogeneous photocatalyst toolbox to click chemistry by developing new protocols to carry out copper-catalyzed click reaction. During my MSc work, I was exposed to an interdisciplinary research environment and collaborated with various groups from different backgrounds such as photocatalysis, materials science and polymers. I successfully defended my MSc thesis in May 2015 and obtained my master’s degree in Chemistry from Istanbul Technical University.

I am currently a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. I have joined the group of Professor Krzysztof Matyjaszewski working on photochemical aspects of ATRP systems.
